Fruitville Pike Water Main Replacement UPDATE

Mar 27, 2025

3/27/25

We learned from the Contractors working on this project that all of the new service lines have been bored and run to the homes on the south side of Fruitville Pike.  Service connections will be made starting Monday of next week.  There should be minimal service impact.   Only one residence was found to have a galvanized service line to the house that will be replaced with suitable material to remove any future risk, but we will need to access your home to coordinate the installation.

This project will improve water flow, reduce the risk of lead exposure from older materials, and provide better water pressure to homes in the area at no cost to you. Questions? Call 717.665.2737 or visit https://MAWSA.org.  We will continue to be in communication during the process to ensure a smooth transition and will restore any damage to your yard.

We learned from the Contractors working on this project that starting the week of 3/24 that the will be starting to work on running the new service lines from the new water main to the homes on the South side of Fruitville Pike.  There will be some disruption along the side of the road and depending on where your curb stop is located and water service enters your home you may have some yard damage for a few days until the connections are completed.  If all goes smoothly, we expect that once the new service lines are run (bored underneath the road from the new main to a new curb-stop), that service connections will be made.  If your existing service line has galvanized materials, it will be replaced with suitable material to remove any future risk, but we will need to access your home to coordinate the installation.

This project will improve water flow, reduce the risk of lead exposure from older materials, and provide better water pressure to homes in the area at no cost to you. Questions? Call 717.665.2737 or visit https://MAWSA.org.  We will be in communication during the week to ensure as smooth transition and will restore any damage to your yard.

Stay tuned for updates closer to the date and with specifics about any temporary service disruptions.

Update on the water main project and new service lines: Obviously with some of the extreme cold weather in February, the schedule has been delayed, but it is nearing completion. The contractor has completed the installation of the new 8-inch ductile iron main along the north side of Fruitville Pike.

The contractor is still looking to finalize the schedule, but changeover of water service from the existing 2” galvanized main existing main to the newly installed main will take place over the next several weeks. New Service lines will be run to the homes on the north of Fruitville Pike first and then the following to the homes on the south side of Fruitville Pike.

This project will improve water flow, reduce the risk of lead exposure from older materials, and provide better water pressure to homes in the area at no cost to you. If your existing service line has galvanized materials, it will be replaced with suitable material to remove any future risk.
