Water Service to the “Park Hill Water Main Replacement Area” was restored around 1:20 this afternoon.
Portions of Sun Hill Road, Conestoga Avenue, Pearl Avenue, Sunset Avenue, Marie Avenue, Hillcrest Drive, and West View Avenue were all expected to be impacted, but due to unexpected valve/connection conditions there were also a few customers on Park Hill Drive north of Sun Hill Road who also had their service interrupted and unfortunately, they were not notified in advance.
There are no additional service disruptions expected in this area this week.
Starting tomorrow, September 11th and continuing next week, our contractor Doli Construction will begin making service line connections for all homes and businesses along West Ferdinand Street to the newly installed water main. Crews will be working from Main Street heading west. This work will result in a brief interruption of water service to each customer as each new connection is being made.
11:15AM
Service interruption is expected this morning, September 10, from 11:15AM to 2PM in Penn Township, due to the ongoing water main infrastructure improvements. Portions of Sun Hill Road, Conestoga Avenue, Pearl Avenue, Sunset Avenue, Marie Avenue, Hillcrest Drive, and West View Avenue may be affected.

Water Main Replacement & Extension Updates
Challenges were encountered over the past few weeks. Some things beneath our streets from 50 years ago do not always match what is expected, resulting in quick adjustments and inconvenient service interruptions for some residents.
What to expect in the weeks ahead…
Park Hill Drive
Service line connections started yesterday and will continue Monday 9/8 and Tuesday 9/9. There will be a day of work along Marie Avenue at some point next week to loop the water connection. Further communication to come, but this should be minimal disruption. Restoration and final paving to take place after all work is completed.
High Street
New water main running back the private lane across from Hossler Road will be connected, hooked up and tested. Service lines to customers along the lane will be installed in the week of 9/9.
Ferdinand Street
Work will resume Wednesday 9/10 to make service line connections starting at Main Street and working westward. This is expected to take about 4-5 days to get the whole way to Grant Street. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is an important effort to replace aging infrastructure.
PA 72 South / South Main Street
Water main replacement will commence Monday 9/8 starting from the south and working north. Tuesday 9/9 there will likely be a short service outage to accommodate a valve installation. Shooting for AM to avoid any disruption of local eateries. Update to come. Completion is not expected to be until the week of 9/15. Service Line connections are expected to start approximately 9/17.
Road Restoration and Paving
Final paving and road restoration will follow after all main and service line work is complete.

Update regarding the Park Hil Drive Water Main Replacement & Extension Project
The contractor is preparing to connect service lines to the newly installed water main. Assuming testing is successful, the connections could begin as early as this afternoon, or at worst the beginning of next week. The impact will be a momentary loss of water service for each home at the time when the existing service line is connected to the new main.

Just an update in advance of the Holiday weekend regarding the water main replacements in the service area.
This past week we encountered some challenges, finding that the things beneath our streets from 50 years ago do not always match what is expected, resulting in some quick adjustments and some inconvenient service interruptions for some residents.
Park Hill Drive – Completion and testing of the water main will take place after Labor Day; service line connections will likely be done the week of September 9th.
W. High Street – New water main running back the private lane across from Hossler Road will be connected, hooked up and tested. Service lines to customers along the lane will be installed in the week of September 9th.
W. Ferdinand Street – First section of water main replacement wrapped up this week (Main Street to Charlotte Street). Starting Tuesday, work will continue from Charlotte Street to Grant Street. Service connections begin the week of September 9th.
PA 72 South/Main Street – Water Main replacement starting near Eby Street and extending south to the end of the current service area (400 block of South Main St). Crews will be in the area setting up late next week with construction commencing September 9th. This will likely require a week to run the lines, with service connections in the 3rd week of September.
The final paving and restoration will follow after all main and service line work is complete.
We will continue to share updates weekly as the project progresses and will communicate schedule for service line extensions with the residents that are impacted. Thank you for bearing with us while we work to provide better water service for our community!

UPDATE: Water Service has been restored for those residents and businesses in the first block of South Main Street and the first block of West Ferdinand Street
These customers experienced an unexpected water outage this afternoon due to older valves not cooperating during water main extension work. Their service has since been restored since 3:05, and we sincerely thank those affected for their patience.

This summer, MAWSA will be completing a series of water main replacements and extensions within the existing service area. This project is financed in large part by a grant from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 under the administration of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Commonwealth Financing Authority. In addition to a new, larger water service main installed earlier this year along Fruitville Pike between Elwyn Terrace and the end of the current service area, other areas that will get much-needed attention are:
• West High Street from near Miller Drive to just before Hossler Rd
• West Ferdinand Street from S Main Street to S Grant Street
• South Main Street from Eby Street south to just before Hillside Avenue
• Park Hill Drive from Pearl Avenue to Bucknoll Road and tie-in to end of line at Bucknoll Road.
The improvements target several key needs: removing outdated galvanized materials from our system, replacing aging infrastructure that has been the source of frequent repairs, and improving water flow and pressure in areas that have historically experienced low performance. These upgrades will help us deliver more reliable service, better water quality, and fewer disruptions for our customers.
