We’re happy to report that sewer flows have improved and with no significant precipitation in the forecast, we’re comfortable bringing our recent water conservation request to a close.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped by temporarily reducing water use. Your cooperation made a real difference and helps us manage the unusually high flows caused by the recent heavy rains. As always, we appreciate your patience, understanding, and support. ### UPDATE: PLEASE CONTINUE TO CONSERVE WATER OVERNIGHT ###
Thank you to our customers for your cooperation today. While the weather has cooperated with us, sewer flows remain high, although they are currently manageable.
The forecast calls for a chance of showers around midnight, but no significant rainfall is expected. As a precaution, we ask customers to continue conserving water overnight where practical. Please consider postponing laundry, dishwashing, and other nonessential water use, and limit flushing when practical.
We are continuing to closely monitor sewer flows and are hopeful that conditions will return to more comfortable levels by morning. We will provide another update as conditions warrant.

URGENT NOTICE: Please Conserve Water
Due to heavy overnight rains, flows in the sewer system are much higher than normal. MAWSA customers are asked to immediately reduce water use until further notice. While nothing is “prohibited”, temporarily limiting wastewater flow will help prevent sewer backups, overflows, and additional strain on the system.
Examples of Conservation in the home or workplace:
- Avoid doing laundry or running dishwashers.
- Postpone baths and take only brief showers.
- Limit toilet flushing when practical.
- Repair or shut off leaking faucets and toilets.
- Delay other nonessential water use.
We are monitoring flows and watching the weather closely, and we do expect showers again mid-morning, until clearing early afternoon. We appreciate your cooperation while crews work to restore normal operations. We will update you when flows are back to normal, and the need for additional conservation efforts have subsided.
