This morning, we received a call about water running on North Fulton Street. An investigative team has been dispatched.
12:08PM
Break repaired. Road backfilling has begun. NO boil water advisory.
1:14PM
Street is opened for traffic.
What should I expect during a break?
The dispatched team will investigate the potential source of the leak (which section of road), mark off the potential work site with paint and cones, and request permission to dig from PA One Call by submitting a ticket.
All utilities in the area will let our team know if we are clear to dig or come out to mark where their service lines are so that we do not accidentally hit one of them when we dig to our main. This process is typically immediate but can take up to a few hours.
Once we have notice that we are safe to dig, we will break ground. (Ticket issued by PA One 12.15.2025 at 09:12)
Once the break is exposed, our field team must conduct a keen assessment to determine the necessary repair. The pipe’s original integrity is compromised, and our priority is to restore your service without creating further problems. (Road saw cutting began at 10:30 12/15/2025 – anticipated line exposure 11:00 12/15/2025)
We will decide between two main methods:
- Band-Aid (Temporary) Repair: This involves using a wrap-around section or clamp that effectively closes off the break. This option is used for smaller cracks, much like a band-aid seals a cut.
- Cut and Replace (Permanent) Repair: In more severe cases, the damaged section of pipe must be cut out and replaced with a brand-new piece.
This decision ensures the fastest and most durable restoration of your water service.
If we can fix it “hot” there is no need to reduce pressure to make the repair. If we have to reduce pressure to be able to make the repair, an alert will be issued regarding low pressure. If we have to turn water off to make the repair, an alert will be issued and a boil water advisory will be issued.

How can I help?
DO:
Stay informed with our blog
Keep out of the work area as best as possible.
DO NOT
Do not distract the field team from what they are doing.
This highlights an important need for our customers to keep their contact information up to date with our office. If we have to do a call-out with our automated system, it will use the information we have on file to reach out to you. The system is capable of calling, emailing, and texting and we will use the same contact information listed for MAWSA as the ones listed on your MAWSA monthly billing statement.
